Vicky Xu Shares Insider Secrets To Global Group Lifestyle And Sports Club

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of looking on as a field of horses’ careers towards the finish line, each one intent on pipping the others to the post. That thrill is only enhanced when the finish line is located amid the glitz and glamour of prestigious events on the global sporting calendar such as Royal Ascot or Glorious Goodwood.

Access to all this and more is at the fingertips of members of the Global Group Lifestyle and Sports Club. Designed for people who appreciate sport and also enjoy the social aspect of sporting events, the Club, founded earlier this year by the Global Group, offers its international membership a host of benefits.

“We focus on horse racing, but also on other world-class events that we can provide our members with access to. The Club is for people who enjoy the lifestyle, who enjoy social events and who appreciate networking,” says Vicky Xu, vice-chairman of the Global Group.

Horse-racing aficionados will be particularly drawn to the Club. The Global Group already has its own professional team of horse breeders and trainers in the UK, and over the past three years it has been honing its skills in these areas.

“We have learned a lot,” says Xu. “We talked to a lot of people in the industry, hired a professional team and we are growing. Now we have a great understanding of the sport, which is of huge potential benefit for members.” The Club will apply this knowledge to its own stable of racehorses, aiming to acquire 20 horses that will race in events around the world, with Club members sharing in the winnings.

Basking in the triumphs of its racehorses is just one benefit of Club membership. Each year the Global Lifestyle and Sports Club will either organise or provide access to a minimum of 12 events for members. While major horse meets will always be a highlight, allowing members to attend racing events in destinations including the UK, France, Dubai and the US, other sporting offerings will include premier car-racing events the Goodwood Revival and the Goodwood Festival of Speed; and the Wimbledon tennis tournament; not to mention a selection of exclusive, invitation-only gatherings such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Royal Christmas Dinner in Buckingham Palace and fashion-world favourite the amfAR Gala in Cannes. Members will also be invited to gather for an annual gala dinner held at Paris’s famed Palace of Versailles.

“We want members to join us and feel that the events are unique, that they themselves are unique and that the Club and what we are doing are unique,” says Xu.

The benefits don’t end there. Members can enjoy access to premium golf clubs in the UK, including Wentworth and the two stunning 18-hole golf courses at the Goodwood Estate, where luxury accommodation is also available to members. Additionally, there’s the opportunity to have private, one-on-one meetings with various celebrities, diplomats, world leaders, captains of industry, fashion and sporting superstars, and so on.

In the future, the Club aims to also offer programmes for members’ children. Initially it will focus on providing them with access to horse-related experiences, through which they can develop skills such as confidence and teamwork that will stand them in good stead for the future.

The Club is also about giving back. Aside from a specially created fund that, in line with the Club’s focus, will look after retired racehorses. The Club also supports the Duchess of Cambridge’s children’s charity, East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices, and encourages members to get involved with its efforts to provide care and support for children and young people with life-threatening conditions.

A member offering like no other, with membership on a strict referral basis, Global Group Lifestyle and Sports Club offers access to prestigious events, potential returns and the kind of experiences that money just can’t buy. “We want members to join us and feel that the events are unique, that they themselves are unique and that the Club and what we are doing are unique,” says Xu.
