'The View': Meghan McCain slams 'Aunt Becky’s husband' for dissing ASU in bribery case – USA TODAY

“The View” co-host Meghan McCain continues to slam Lori Loughlin’s fashion designer husband, Mossimo Giannulli, after the couple was arrested Tuesday in the nation’s largest-ever college admissions bribery case.

In emails cited in Operation Varsity Blues, Giannulli knocked Arizona State University as an example of a college the couple wouldn’t want their daughters to attend.

On Wednesday’s episode of “The View,” McCain noted that the McCain Institute for International Leadership is housed at ASU, acknowledging that “not everything is about my family, I know. I read my tweets; I know what you guys are saying.”

“I’m very proud to have my family’s name attached to ASU. It is an incredible, incredible, incredible college,” she said before throwing some shade. “Aunt Becky’s husband – whoever the hell you are. I had no idea who you were until yesterday, sorry – your kid probably wouldn’t have even been good enough to get into ASU.”

The Arizona native’s comments followed a critical tweet Tuesday.

“To Aunt Becky’s husband who talked (expletive) about ASU — The @McCainInstitute for International Leadership does incredible work w/ students in cooperation with ASU and I guarantee those students involved will go on to do great things in the world and didn’t have to lie to get there,” McCain tweeted.

Loughlin, known for her role as Aunt Becky on “Full House,” and Giannulli agreed to pay $500,000 in bribes to get their two daughters designated as recruits to the University of Southern California’s crew team, though the girls did not participate in crew, court documents allege.

Giannulli wrote to a cooperating witness in 2016, copying Loughlin on the email:

“We just met with (our older daughter’s) college counselor this am. I’d like to maybe sit with you after your session with the girls as I have some concerns and want to fully understand the game plan and make sure we have a roadmap for success as it relates to (our daughter) and getting her into a school other than ASU!”

The cooperating witness responded that they had a “game plan ready to go into motion” for USC. The couple’s daughters, Bella, 20, and Olivia, 19, are both currently enrolled at USC.

USC’s acceptance rate was 13 percent in 2018, making it a highly selective university. ASU’s acceptance rate tops 80 percent.

In response, ASU said it had “no comment on a glib, uninformed remark.”

But, the university’s statement says the underlying issue of college selectivity deserves attention: “Some universities have decided the most important thing they can do is turn away deserving, qualified applicants just so they can seem more exclusive. That leads to perverse incentives and perverse actions, as we are witnessing unfold right now.”

Interestingly enough, Loughlin’s first husband, Michael R. Burns, graduated from ASU. They were married from 1989 to 1996.
