All your Disney dreams are coming true this summer: Aladdin and The Lion King are returning in live-action form. But theaters will more than accommodate the hot-weather whims of horror lovers and superhero fans, too (see Dark Phoenix and Midsommar). Here are the 12 best movies to watch this summer.

Aladdin (May 24)

Get ready for a live-action carpet ride with Aladdin and Jasmine. This Disney classic remake may make you extremely nostalgic, or even wistful as you remember the original, but here’s to Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith creating magic on screen.

Rocketman (May 31)

Based on the life of the musical legend Elton John, this musical drama starring Taron Egerton recounts John’s life as struggles with addiction, coming out, and relationships. In an interview with Variety, Egerton claimed the movie portrays John at his “most vulnerable, most broken, and damaged.” But the musician’s glorious hits will light the way.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix (June 7)

Calling all Sansa Stark fans. Sophie Turner stars as the telepathic and telekinetic Marvel character Jean Grey, whose powers are supercharged after colliding with a mysterious force on an X-Men mission. But is it too much for her to handle?

Late Night (June 7)

Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling star in this comedy-themed comedy, about newbie late-night writer Molly Patel, who helps talk-show veteran Katherine Newbury face her weaknesses when her longtime job is at risk.

Men in Black: International (June 14)

Agent M and Agent H are gearing up to kick some major alien ass in this international Men in Black spinoff. It stars Liam Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Liam Neeson. That’s right, two Liams!

The Dead Don’t Die (June 14)

Set in the small, peaceful town of Centerville, The Dead Don’t Die follows three local policemen and a morgue worker as they battle the undead. The only problem? (See title.) The Jim Jarmusch horror comedy will star Adam Driver, Bill Murray, Chloe Sevigny, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, and Selena Gomez.

Toy Story 4 (June 21)

Woody and the gang are back again with another high-stakes adventure. A new toy, Forky, runs away and Woody follows, only to find himself lost. If only these guys would stay in the toy box!

Midsommar (July 3)

Every horror freak has already seen the trailer for this Sweden-set film. A group of friends visit a small village where a summer festival is taking place, but find themselves trapped as the townspeople begin their creepy rituals.

Spider-Man: Far From Home (July 5)

Spider-Man: Far From Home feels like the perfect superhero soother for whatever Avengers: Endgame has in store for us. Peter Parker goes on a European adventure, where he once again dons the spider suit and helps Nick Fury with the mystery of elemental creature attacks and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio.

The Lion King (July 19)

I just can’t wait to be king! Whether it’s really live-action or not (there aren’t any real lions in this, right?) the Lion King remake starring such luminaries as Beyoncé, Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Keegan-Michael Key, Billy Eichner, and Beyoncé, is going to be a highlight.

Where’d You Go Bernadette (August 9)

Based on the hit novel of the same name, this follows Bernadette (Cate Blanchett), a woman with an incredible husband, a brilliant daughter, and a seemingly perfect life. That is, until her family discovers she’s run away and they embark on an epic adventure to find Bernadette.

Good Boys (August 16)

Produced by Seth Rogen, this comedy is giving us major Superbad vibes. Three sixth-grade boys cut school and tick every bad-boy box: tangling with drugs, fighting with frat guys, and running from cops, all in an attempt to make it to the party of their dreams.
