Reader question: I was just wondering if you have gotten any news regarding Frank’s Pizza Palace?
Answer: The longtime pizzeria at 815 W. College Ave. in Appleton is still dark, as it has been since Halloween with the exception of one night when it reopened for a private party.
Owner Jeannie Pierri-Brice said several months ago that she still wants to reopen the pizzeria.
Here’s a new bit of proof that she’s still serious about it: She applied for her liquor license renewal for 2019/2020.
If she intended to close permanently, she wouldn’t have paid for a renewal.
Frank’s Pizza Palace is among a long list of restaurants applying for renewals at Wednesday’s Safety & Licensing Committee for the city of Appleton.
Reader question: Wondering what is going on with the old ThedaCare clinic building on the corner of Breezewood and Tullar Road in Neenah, across from the fire station. Have been a lot of people working there for a while now.
Answer: It will be the Advanced Spine Center of Wisconsin.
“We’re an ambulatory surgery center,” said administrator Angie Laux. “We’re looking to take occupancy of the building in June and seeing our first cases sometime in July.”
The independent surgery center is a joint venture between its physicians and Surge Center Development.
Laux said three local surgeons from NeuroSpine, one surgeon from Neuroscience Group and four physicians doing pain injections will use the surgery center.
More information will be available when the center has its website and landline ready.
Reader question: I drive by the now-closed Shopko Express on Collage and Van Roy Road and see that Pfefferle Management is working on site. Do you know if the building has been leased or sold?
Answer: It hasn’t been taken so far. The building is at W3208 Van Roy Road in Darboy.
“It’s still for lease or for sale,” said NAI Pfefferle broker Tom Scheuerman. “We’re just cleaning it out.”
Reader question: What do you know about pizza places offering keto pizza?
Answer: I know nothing about this.
If any readers do, and send me an email about where they’ve found pizza that meets the ultra low-carb restrictions of a ketogenic or keto diet, I’ll run the answer in a future column.
