Premier League gossip: Manchester United target in shock admission, Liverpool to sign Fernandes – LancsLive
The long-running rumours in this transfer window show no sign of being resolved quickly.
Burnley striker Matej Vydra is reportedly a target for Leeds United, who may test Burnley’s resolve with a £10m bid. He’s firmly a back-up player so that will no doubt be tempting.
Meanwhile Kevin O’Connor could stay at Cork City indefinitely, if their boss is to be believed. The defender had moved in the previous direction to PNE a few years ago but hasn’t held down a place in the team.
Here’s the rest of the gossip from the top tier – and we’ve rated it too.
De Ligt still unsure
Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt has admitted he still doesn’t know where he’ll be playing next season as he plans a decision on his future.
Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona have all been linked with the 19-year-old so far this summer.
And speaking after Holland’s Nations League final defeat to Portugal, De Ligt said: “I don’t know. I don’t know. Now I am going on vacation and I just take a rest, relax and then I will see.
“When you rest you have enough time to think, so that’s good.”
Likelihood: Presumably he’s hoping to spark a bidding war. It’s a hard one to predict but we hope, for his career, he isn’t tempted by a move to PSG.
Manchester United have reportedly met with Real Madrid chiefs to discuss a huge Paul Pogba deal.
According to The Sun, officials from both clubs held a secret meeting in London last week to discuss a £150m move.
Los Blancos representatives were already in the capital to finalise Eden Hazard’s signing from Chelsea and president Florentino Perez must now decide whether to meet United’s asking price for Pogba.
Likelihood: Any move for Pogba would make sense, and it would allow the club to flex their muscles when it comes to moving on stars that might not have the right attitude. That might not apply to Pogba necessarily, but it’s certainly the impression externally.
Lukaku bid rejected
Inter Milan have seen a player-plus-cash offer for Romelu Lukaku rejected by Manchester United.
The Serie A side were prepared to send Ivan Perisic to Old Trafford as a makeweight in a deal for the Belgian striker.
But The Sun is reporting that the offer has been turned down with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keen to keep the former Everton man this summer.
Likelihood: That’s quite the twist. He certainly offers a viable plan b that they might not otherwise have.
City blink first
Manchester City have offered Joao Felix a contract worth just over £26m as they look to secure his signature this summer.
According to Record, the 19-year-old has a release clause of £105m, and City appear to be the first club to make their move for the youngster.
Likelihood: It seems unlikely that anyone other than City will be tempted to spend such coin on a player that is quite far from the boil at this point.
Move for Fernandes
Liverpool look set to win the race to sign Bruno Fernandes according to reports in Portugal.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Spurs have all been linked with Sporting Lisbon playmaker.
But according to Correio de Manha, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is ready ‘to sign’ the 24-year-old.
Likelihood: Champions of Europe. Six times. Etc…
