Premier League gossip: Manchester United £142m battle, Latest on Pogba – LancsLive

The latest gossip from the Premier League continues to focus on the future of Paul Pogba – who is apparently now going nowhere.

We look forward to reading about his imminent move to PSG in a week then.

Elsewhere, the really-quite excellent James Maddison has spoken out about being linked to big clubs.

There’s also some guff about Coutinho for us to chuckle at.

We’ve rated all the latest below.

Latest on Pogba

Manchester United expect Paul Pogba to remain at the club this summer.

Despite continued speculation linking the 26-year-old with a move away from Old Trafford, with Pogba even admitting himself that it ‘could be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else’.

But according to a variety of reports in the media, the club’s hierarchy see Pogba as a key-part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side for the forthcoming season.

Likelihood: Nobody is chucking £100m at Pogba that isn’t already spending their budget elsewhere. Give it a year, maybe.

Maddison speaks out

James Maddison says speculation linking him with a move is a ‘compliment’.

The Leicester midfielder is reportedly a target for a host of clubs after an impressive first season in the Premier League with the Foxes.

But when asked whether transfer talk will play on his mind at the Under-21 European Championship, the 22-year-old said:“No, you have just got to ignore that and take it all in your stride.

“As a 17 year-old boy I’d started five games for Coventry and saw on my phone that I was being linked with Tottenham and Liverpool.

“With transfer talk you need to take it as a compliment that people are even talking about you, it won’t distract me.”

Likelihood: Whatever happens with Maddison, it’s been a lot of fun watching him emerge.

Respect, unless your back is sore

Phillipe Coutinho looks set to leave Barcelona this summer – but will not move to Manchester United because of his respect for former club Liverpool.

United were reportedly interested in the Brazilian, who is understood to cost less than the £142m paid to Liverpool by Barca last January.

But according to reports from Brazil, the 27-year-old will not be making the switch to Old Trafford this summer.

Likelihood: Perhaps we’re giving Coutinho too little credit here, but this seems incredibly unlikely. Unless he’s realising how good it was now it’s too late.
