REI has given a few more details on its coming store in Grand Chute, its third Wisconsin location after Brookfield and Madison.

The new 20,000-square-foot outdoor gear store will open in spring 2020, according to an email from the Seattle-based company.

As previously reported in The Buzz, it will be at the northeast corner of W. Wisconsin Avenue and Interstate 41, in a development that also includes WG&R Furniture and the coming At Home store.

REI will hire 45 employees for this store that it calls REI Appleton.

“Appleton is an incredible outdoor community, with so many opportunities to paddle, cycle and camp,” said Michelle Yancy, REI retail director for the Midwest. “We are excited to further connect our local members to these areas. Whether through a new piece of gear, a rental or an outdoor program, we offer something for everyone looking to get outside.”

Besides gear, it offers expertise, outdoor programs and adventure travel. REI stands for Recreational Equipment Inc.

REI is set up as a consumer membership co-op. It has 18 million members, including nearly 300,000 lifetime members in Wisconsin. Its stores sell to both members and non-members. Profits are invested in state and local outdoor nonprofit companies and organizations.
