All the Style You Need: Taos Lifestyle and Mattress Mary’s Mountain Lifestyle

Taos Lifestyle on Paseo del Pueblo Sur has been bringing beautiful furniture and quality mattresses to Taos for 15 years. This spring, Mattress Mary’s Mountain Lifestyle opened just a few blocks away. The new store focuses on traditional lodging-style furniture from rustic to refined ranch. Together the two stores provide a full range of choices and an opportunity to shop locally and get great customer service.

 Mattress Mary’s Mountain Lifestyle

“Our new store fills a gap in the furniture available in town. Furniture at Mattress Mary’s Mountain Lifestyle is all good quality and ranges from super affordable to top-of-the-line,” says owner Mary Domito. “There is everything for your dream mountain home.”

The showroom is full of comfortable sofas, love seats and chairs both reclining and stationary in a wide variety of fabrics and colors. Accents like pillows with wildlife scenes and chandeliers made from real antlers bring the concept of mountain furnishings alive.

The new store has provided the opportunity to expand the kids’ section with bunk beds and dressers. There are living room pieces at all different prices, including futons starting under $400. Mattress Mary’s Mountain Lifestyle also has a variety of mattresses by Sealy, Stearns and Foster, Tempur-Pedic and Corsicana.

Manager Kim Van Deman points to their line by Simply Amish as an example of well-made, heirloom-quality furniture at affordable prices. She says, “During our summer sale, in-stock Simply Amish items are 30% off (special orders 20% off), including the beautiful bedroom and dining room sets.” Other choices include the colorful Million Dollar Rustic line with both refined and rustic finishes.

Taos Lifestyle

At the Taos Lifestyle store, there are living room sets in bright contemporary colors, along with gorgeous wooden dining rooms, lighting and a large selection of rugs. The Stressless furniture company offers chairs with clean Scandinavian design in three different sizes. “The chairs are comfort-fitted, because we are not all the same size,” says Domito.

Other brands include La-Z-Boy and England, which offer comfortable recliners, sofas, love seats and sectionals all made in America. A special order from England Furniture can be made and delivered in four weeks, whereas it takes most other makers eight to 10 weeks. The best mattress brands are available at Taos Lifestyle, including Serta.

Free interior design services are offered with purchase to help with questions about matching the colors and scale of your current furniture.

In addition to all of the home furnishings, Taos Lifestyle offers full lines of gifts like soap and candles. “Some people drop by to pick up a gift or just see what’s new,” says Domito. “About every 90 days, we have so many new products that the store looks different and feels like a whole new store.”

Experience and customer service

Although the styles in the two stores vary, there are certain things that you can count on being the same. Experienced and knowledgeable salespeople with as much as 35 years of experience are there to help you find exactly the right piece to fit your style and budget. The managers are empowered to make decisions and deal with any issues that arise. The guiding principle in all decisions is making the customer happy.

“We will do everything to earn your business. If you have a problem, we will fix it,” says Domito. “We ensure the satisfaction of the customer; we call it our happiness guarantee. We help people handle manufacturer or warranty issues. No internet or out-of-town business will do the same. Even our customer service reps who deal with lots of stores say that no one takes care of their customers like we do.”

Domito keeps current on trends and prices in the market, which allows her to make sure her prices are competitive and fair. With all the choices in the two stores, it is easy to shop local. As Domito points out “We go the extra mile keep your business in town. If we can’t fill your need, then we understand you will go elsewhere. We want to earn your business – give us a try first.”

Community support

When you shop local, your money stays here to support basic services like fixing potholes. Buying a couch or dining room set at Taos Lifestyle or Mattress Mary’s Mountain Lifestyle ensures that the businesses can continue to support local nonprofits like Stray Hearts, Community Against Violence and HEART.

One example of Domito’s good works is the legendary Dog Days of Summer, a musical benefit for Stray Hearts now in its 10th year. On Saturday, Aug. 10, Jack Mack and the Heart Attack will perform at Taos Mesa Brewery Mothership. The group is known for its blues and soul style and has a new album out called “Back to the Shack.” Look for more details coming soon.
