Smiling Ben Unwin poses with his sister in last public picture before tragic death – Irish Mirror
Actor Ben Unwin’s last public picture has been revealed, after pal and writer Dan Bennett tweeted he was “Devastated to hear this news”.
41 year-old Ben, who played bad boy Jesse McGregor on Aussie TV soap Home & Away, was found dead at his home in Minyon Falls, Australia last week.
Dan tweeted: “Devastated to hear this news. Ben was an utterly lovely guy. I’m so sad he felt there was no other way for him. Rest in peace, mate #HomeAndAway”.
Now it’s been revealed that his most recent public photograph was taken a month ago – and shows Ben with his sister at the first Australian Cosmopolitan Annual Style Awards.
New South Wales police have not released the cause of death, but have confirmed that they are not treating the death as suspicious.
Ben had not starred in the hit soap since 2005, but had left acting to pursue a law career. He worked as a senior solicitor in Newcastle, New South Wales.
He had also built up a strong reputation in the music industry, including as a director of music videos. He worked with Culture Club on the video for I Just Wanna Be Loved, and Chumbawamba’s Tubthumping.
Co-star Kimberley Cooper, who played Gypsy Smith on Home & Away, expressed deep sorrow at Ben’s loss: “He was a gift to come to work with every day and to be on the receiving end of his friendship was to know unwavering support, loyalty and love.”
She also posted a snap of her with Ben on the cover of TV Week. Kimberley wrote: “My first tv week cover was with you. We had years of laughter, be it giggles on set trying to get through scenes as lovers or doubled over belly laughs at the pubs after work.
“I will be sad for now, but I promise to tell stories of great joy about our times together.
“You forever hold a special place in my heart.
“Love you Onion”.
Ada Nicodemou, also Ben’s co-star, wrote: “I just woke up to the tragic news of Ben’s passing, my heart goes out to his family.”
