Toy Story 4: Exclusive Deleted Scene Introduces Buzz Lightyear’s ‘Knockoffs’ – IGN – IGN
While Toy Story 4 introduced a number of new toys into an already massive cast, there are even more new characters who didn’t quite make the cut. We have an exclusive clip that showcases some of these characters, as Buzz Lightyear meets three “knockoffs” crudely designed in his image.
Check out this deleted scene in the video player above.
Director Josh Cooley breaks down the origins of the scene as he introduces the clip. The idea being that Buzz would meet several bootleg toys while trapped as a prize inside a carnival booth. The toys look like him (more or less) but they aren’t quite the real deal. And as we can see from one of these characters, Buzz’s iconic catchphrases didn’t quite make the transition.
Every Major Toy Character in the Toy Story Series
Sadly, while Buzz’s brief time as a carnival prize made it into the final movie, this particular scene didn’t. It also appears the scene was cut from the film early on, hence why it only exists in rough animatic with limited animation and placeholder voices.
Still, the clip offers a fun taste of what might have been. And who knows? Given how often the Toy Story franchise has spawned short films like Partysaurus Rex and TV spinoffs like Toy Story of Terror, maybe we’ll see these Buzz knockoffs appear in a new form down the road.
Toy Story 4 will be released on Digital HD on Tuesday, October 1, and on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on Tuesday, October 8.
