With the 11th pick in the 2017 NBA draft, the Charlotte Hornets drafted an intriguing player out of Kentucky. They drafted shooting guard, Malik Monk, known for his ability to light up the scoreboard.

Since this time, this man has been the pain and joy of so much that has happened at the Charlotte Hornets organization.  He has at times carried the burden of the Hornets fan base as they look for a player to hope and dream for.

Malik Monk has certainly had his highs as a Hornet but he has definitely had his lows. At times he has been removed from rotation due to his inability to play defense both under former head coach Steve Clifford and now current head coach, James Borrego.

This has ultimately come down to effort. Coaches have continuously and constantly urged him to compete with more effort on that end of the floor, but nothing has changed.

We enter a year which could define what happens to the future of this man at the Hornets and possibly, whether or not he even remains in the NBA. Many Charlotte Hornets fans enter fierce debate around where this man sits in the future of this organisation.

Some believe he has had his chance and is completely expendable, while others believe now is his time to shine. With a rebuilding roster in place, he could very well get the opportunity he has been searching for.

All of these discussions present us with an interesting question, what is Malik Monk’s realistic potential?
