Reader question: Did you know that Perkins in Neenah closed last night? The doors were locked and a note on the front door said they are permanently closed.

Answer: The restaurant’s new owner confirmed that Perkins Restaurant at 1121 Westowne Drive in Neenah has closed. Another Perkins closed in the Green Bay area, at 2800 S. Oneida St. in Ashwaubenon.

Perkins & Marie Callender’s, the parent company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in August. The company was then sold to Huddle House.

“As a result of the Perkins bankruptcy proceeding, yesterday we took the difficult step to close several Perkins Restaurant & Bakery units. There were 11 closures in six states,” Huddle House said in a prepared statement Monday.

“These were all restaurants whose sales declined over the years and high operating costs made it untenable to remain open.”

Perkins locations on East and West College Avenue remain open in the Appleton area. Two additional Perkins locations remain open on Military Avenue and East Mason Street in Green Bay.
