Dec Donnelly jets off to I’m A Celebrity jungle with Ali Astall and baby Isla – Irish Mirror
Dec Donnelly has told of his glee at jetting off to Australia ahead of this year’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.
The TV host was spotted arriving at the airport this morning with his wife Ali Astall and their daughter Isla in tow.
Dec had an enormous grin on his face as he helped Ali get Isla settled into her pram before they made their way to check-in.
He told photographers he was “not sad” to be leaving the cold weather behind, and was “very much looking forward” to starting filming in the blistering heat of the Australian rainforest.
Dec was dressed casually in a camo jacket over a black and white t-shirt, along with dark jeans and white trainers.
Ali was also dressed for comfort ahead of their day-long flight, opting for a smart white top, blue jeans, white sneakers and a long brown cardigan worn open.
They were joined by a female assistant, who held Isla tight while the parents sorted out the pushchair.
It’s the second time little Isla will be heading Down Under, as Dec and Ali chose to take her to Australia last year when she was just a few weeks old.
That time she joined Holly Willoughby and her family – dad Dan Baldwin and their three children Harry, Belle and Chester – in a more family-friendly setting, compared to the somewhat boozy downtime Dec used to share with Ant McPartlin.
And speaking of Dec’s telly partner, there was no sign of Ant arriving at the airport with Dec.
No doubt he’ll be heading out there later today, accompanied by his PA turned girlfriend Anne-Marie Corbett.
This year will be the first since 2017 that Ant and Dec have presented I’m A Celebrity together.
Last year saw Ant duck out in a bid to focus on getting sober after a battle with drink and prescription drugs, as well as his shameful drink-driving car crash.
Ant’s addiction problems tested his friendship with Dec almost to breaking point, with Dec admitting he was furious with his teenage pal when he first heard the news.
Speaking ahead of the documentary Ant & Dec’s DNA Journey, Dec said: “It has been a tough couple of years and it has tested the bond we have shared since we were 13 years old.
“I was incredibly angry at the start, so angry.
“Disappointed that he didn’t ever come to me and say, ‘I am struggling, I need you’, because that is what I would do if the shoe was on the other foot. And he never came to me, and that hurt me a lot.”
Ant also touched on how his tough few years tested the strength of his friendship with Dec.
“Y’know the last few years have been quite emotional, hard, they have been testing I would say in terms of how strong your love is and how strong your friendship is,” he confessed.
“I took a break from TV and Dec became a dad. Life dramatically changed for us. There were points we thought it was never gonna happen again.
“I’m glad we did carry on because it is one hell of a journey.”
