I’m A Celeb main camp evacuated and challenge is cancelled as storms cause chaos – Irish Mirror
Heavy storms in the jungle caused the contestants to be evacuated from the main camp area and led to filming chaos.
Rain lashed down through the night at the weekend and during a lot of Sunday in Murwillumbah, north-eastern New South Wales, meaning the campmates woke up damp and had wet conditions to contend with.
But worse was to come when the Dingo Dollar Challenge had to be cancelled and camp mates were then told to leave the sleeping area and take shelter in the leaders log cabin.
A show source said: “The camp has been very dry this year up until now but the last 48 hours has been rain filled. It’s the first time for years and years that anyone can remember a challenge being cancelled.
“Andrew and Caitlyn were lined up to take part to try to win a treat for camp, but the weather was even worse where they were playing the game compared to in camp with big hailstones as well as rain, so it couldn’t happen and they were sent back to camp
“In camp rain was lashing down too and there were strong winds so bosses had to monitor things closely.
“The edit of the show had to change too because there was no Dingo Dollar challenge so there were a chaotic few hours before transmission.
“It would have been a lot worse but the camp does have a protective white screen about 40 feet above them in camp which is to protect them from the sun’s rays and heavy downpours, but some rain still gets in.”
The show has been hit by heavy storms in the past which caused problems.
In 2015 Bosses moved the celebs from the main camp to take shelter in the Bush Telegraph as thunder, lightning and torrential rain poured into the jungle.
The bad weather also meant cameras and lighting used on the show lost power for a few hours and there was a race against time to finish the show. The camp was also evacuated on the show in 2008.
