The pair has broken away from Prince William and Kate Middleton –and they are determined to carve out their own Sussex lane where they can focus on their own passion projects and charities outside of the stuffy tradition of the royals.
Prince Harry has always been rebellious –and Markle has brought her own flair to the British Royal family –from her American background to her mixed-race heritage and work ethic– people can’t seem to get over how different the duchess approaches royal life. Prince William and Kate Middleton are beloved — but they are very traditional and they’ve even been accused of having light schedules when it comes to charities and events. Though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle respect the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge–they want to approach royal life in a way that will make them both happy and fulfilled. A close friend of the Sussexes told Royal reporter Omid Scobie,
Let’s be clear about one thing: Any decision the couple make about their future will be made by themselves for themselves,” a Sussex friend said. “Harry and Meghan have always wanted to reach people on a global level and that is the only thing that’s motivating them. Aside from the Queen and Prince Charles, they’re not looking to other family members, or their teams, for guidance.
Why have Meghan Markle and Prince Harry broken away from Prince William and Kate Middleton?
Though Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are friendly –they simply don’t have much in common. The arrival of Baby Sussex might change their dynamic–but for now, they are not very close. Princess Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell told Us Weekly, “They are different women with different roles from different cultures. Kate knows that Meghan is no threat to her, and Meghan is mature enough to realize that her role is vastly different to Kate’s.” However, the Sussexes and the Cambridges have broken away from each other because Prince Harry and Prince William aren’t as close as they once were.
A royal insider told People, “It was only going to work until they married — and it went on a while longer than perhaps was originally thought.” Though the press was hoping for a Fab Four dynamic when Prince Harry married Meghan Markle, it didn’t really pan out that way. A source told People, “It’s a shame. There was power in that unity and great strength in the foursome, but I see why it is happening. There is always that tension: trying to do the PR thing and then realizing that they are just real people. They want their own place and their own things.”
