Chace Crawford says Gossip Girl could return for an eight-part season – digitalspy.com

Chace Crawford has said he can see Gossip Girl returning as an eight-part season on a TV streaming service – but with brand new characters rather than the original stars reprising their roles.

The 33-year-old actor, who returns to TV as a slippery superhero in Seth Rogen’s comic book series The Boys, insisted he’d absolutely have to cameo in it with his co-stars, if their schedules allow it.

“I don’t know what it would look like with us being in our 30s now, but I always say, because it was such a big part of my life, I’m open to anything,” Crawford told Digital Spy. “It would have to be really right, and really specific, and with TV and the golden age of the TV streaming service, maybe an eight-episode season…

“It would be very tough to get everybody on board I think because of their schedules, Penn, Leighton, Ed… They’re all doing really good TV shows. It would be hard I think [to get them all together]. The reboot might come in the form of new characters. I would absolutely cameo. I’d have to!”

Penn Badgley is currently filming season two of Netflix’s hit thriller You, Leighton Meester is starring in new sitcom Single Parents, Ed Westwick was shooting series two of BBC Two’s White Gold, and Blake Lively just finished filming The Rhythm Section.

Meanwhile, Crawford crashes onto the scene in Amazon Prime’s upcoming adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book The Boys as corrupt superhero The Deep.

The eight-part series follows seven amoral superheroes who are abusing their fame and status, and are more concerned with their own celebrity than saving the world. A group of vigilantes – known as the boys – scheme to take them down and strip them of their powers once and for all.

Crawford admitted he’d love to play another superhero in the future, although his contract for The Boys prohibits him from taking on another superhero role while he’s still playing The Deep.

“I would be open to [playing other superheroes] – it’s so popular – but I think in our contract we can’t. We’re not really allowed to do anything if we’re still doing the show, but we’ll see in the future. I’d be open to it,” he explained.

“Maybe The Deep could have his own spin-off show. I guess Marvel’s Avengers has come to a close, but they’re doing their own streaming shows and hopefully now that I’ve tapped into the comic book world, hopefully we can have a cult audience within that world. It would be cool.

“Fingers crossed the series returns. We love it, we’ve heard good things, we all got along so well and we’d be more than happy to come back.”

The Boys begins on Friday, July 26 on Amazon Prime Video.
