While you were sleeping last night, Beyoncé dropped an incredible album filled with features from African artists which she called “a love letter” to the continent.
The project, titled The Lion King: The Gift, serves as a complementary album to the live-action film, a remake of the 1994 original.
So let’s talk about this mind-blowing album, shall we?
On it, Beyoncé sings to her children, talks about her father on a track called “FIND YOUR WAY BACK,” brags about being THAT BITCH (!!!) on “MOOD 4 EVA,” and praises dark skinned women like Lupita Nyong’o on “BROWN SKIN GIRL.”
In addition to serving us sounds straight from the motherland, the “Freedom” singer used the album to uplift Black people and shine a light on several deserving African musicians, and I thank her for it.
The album also features cameos from US artists like Childish Gambino (he voices adult Simba in the film), JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar, and our very own Princess, Blue Ivy.
I wasn’t the only one who felt personally attacked by all of the greatness that the album offered.
Meanwhile, most fans already anticipated something spectacular from their Queen of the BeyHive.
It was the empowering song with Blue, Saint Jhn and Wizkid that had many in their feelings, though.
And rightfully so.
Blue did what she had to do.
Others were here for Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter talking her shit.
In general, the album was well-received.
This person was ready to listen to it on repeat.
At the end of the day, this guy summed it up best.
Have you heard Beyoncé’s The Lion King: The Gift yet? If not, what are you waiting for? Go get your blessings!
