Yes, a whole lot of sad music is coming your way from the queen of the breakup ballad.
Adele and Simon Konecki separated back in April, but it seems they’re still legally married.
The singer took steps toward changing that this week when she filed for divorce in London.
Entertainment Tonight has obtained the documents, and it doesn’t appear that Konecki will contest the terms of the split.
The two are parents to 6-year-old son, Angelo Adkins.
It’s unclear why it took so long for documents to be filed, but it looks as though the separation has been an amicable one thus.
There’s still some mystery regarding the cause of Adele and Simon’s split, but it looks as though there was no precipitating event, and the couple simply grew apart.
At the time of the split, a boilerplate statement from Adele’s spokesperson confirmed that the couple is still on good terms and plans to continue co-parenting peacefully:
“Adele and her partner have separated,” her reps said.
“They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”
Looking back, when Adele announced she has an album on the way, we should have known there’d been some major shakeup in her personal life.
Some fans are hoping for gossipy bombshells in the lyrics, but that’s never been Adele’s style.
(Then again, it wasn’t Beyonce’s style prior to Lemonade.)
There have been rumors that Konecki left Adele for his first wife, but that seems unlikely for a number of reasons.
Both parties have endeavored to keep the divorce as private as possible, and the tabloid press has remained largely clueless as a result.
But something like Konecki reconciling with his ex would be tough to hide from the UK gossip rags.
In all likelihood, Adele will say little about the specifics of her failed marriage on her new album.
Instead, she’ll stick to more universal observations about heartbreak so that everyone can cry along.
