A handful of restaurants have been slow to reopen following the Covid-19 safer-at-home shutdown.

The mandatory shutdown was lifted in May, more than a month ago.

Here’s what we know, and don’t know, right now:

The Machine Shed

“We are going to be reopening. We just have not set a date yet,” said Michelle Sparkman, spokeswoman for the Heart of America Group, the Moline, Ill.-based owner.

The company owns all six Machine Shed restaurants. Four have reopened, including the Pewaukee branch. All six Machine Sheds are located in the upper Midwest.

The one here is at Grand Chute between Interstate 41 and the Fox River Mall.

Bamboo

The Chinese/sushi restaurant at 2230 E. Northland Ave. in Appleton hasn’t reopened since statewide restaurant restrictions were lifted.

But city files show that the business renewed its liquor license for the 2020/2021 year that begins July 1.

A renewed liquor license doesn’t guarantee that a restaurant will reopen, but it could mean the Chen family owners are looking at the possibility.

Chuan Shun Chen, son of owner Ming Chen and spokesman for the restaurant, has not returned several phone messages left this week asking for information.

5th Quarter

5th Quarter in Little Chute is now permanently closed, based on licensing information from the city of Little Chute.

The sports bar at 2101 American Drive did not renew its liquor license for the 2020/2021 year starting July 1.

Its owner did not immediately return a request for information.

Golden Corral

As previously noted in The Buzz, Golden Corral expects to reopen around mid July, according to a spokeswoman from its corporate office.
