The Buzz: Josh Leeson reports on the latest in Newcastle music

GET WELLThe Buzz has been a big admirer of Kurri Kurri alt-country songstress Tori Forsyth for some time, and if you haven’t heard her debut album Dawn Of The Dark yet, do yourself a favour. It’s wonderful. Our admiration for Forsyth grew this week after she revealed the debilitating health problems she’s endured for more than six months due to endometriosis. Forsyth underwent surgery this week and we wish her a speedy recovery.

XMAS TICKETS The past week has arguably been the biggest in Hunter entertainment news for several years as Bimbadgen and Hope Estate both dropped major gig announcements. Bimbadgen went first by revealing pop princess Kylie Minogue would make her A Day On The Green debut on March 16, and then kept the momentum going with Bryan Adams set to return on March 23. Hope Estate then returned fire on Friday when they announced US rock giants the Red Hot Chili Peppers for February 23. One expects there’s going to be some serious credit card pain over Christmas.

WINNING South African-New Zealander comedian Urzila Carlson has been kicking some goals this year on Network Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention and 2019 is expected to be even more successful. Carlson will become the first female comedian to perform a full run at Melbourne Town Hall’s main auditorium when she begins her Loser tour in March. The show comes to the Civic Theatre on June 14.

HEADS UP Wollongong surf-garage band The Pinheads are heading north this summer to tour their new single Not Like You at the Cambridge Hotel on February 8.
