Lin-Manuel Miranda Reveals the Biggest Challenge of Returning to Hamilton – Playbill.com

Hamilton writer and original star Lin-Manuel Miranda speaks about returning to the title role of his Tony-winning musical for the Puerto Rico run—which begins January 8, 2019—in the video above.

Appearing on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Miranda shared the unique challenge he faces relearning the material as the show’s writer. Miranda’s performance in Puerto Rico will be his first time returning to the Tony-nominated role since leaving the Broadway production more than two years ago.

Fallon also announced that The Tonight Show will head to Puerto Rico for a special episode January 15. The episode is set to include appearances from Miranda and a host of special guests, along with a performance from Hamilton.

The two also discussed Mary Poppins Returns, the Mary Poppins movie musical sequel that casts Miranda as lamplighter Jack opposite Emily Blunt in the title role. Miranda spoke to the physical challenges of filming the role, sharing a clip from the song and dance number “A Cover Is Not the Book.”

Watch Miranda and Fallon give some of 2018’s top songs a Christmas twist in the clip below. The two perform such songs as Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You,” Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left to Cry,” and Cardi B’s “I Like It,” making the first two “Too Much Food” and “Oh, What the Hell Did I Buy?” respectively.
