LIVERPOOL INTERESTED IN SANCHO – 18 MONTHS AGO
‘Jurgen Klopp confirms Liverpool interest in England youngster’ reads the headline on The Mirror’s story which suggests the Reds ‘could be set to renew their interest’ in Jadon Sancho. Juicy.

Sancho is making waves at Borussia Dortmund and the 18-year-old has been loosely linked with all the Premier League’s big-hitters. Indeed, Manchester United have been the club mentioned as Sancho’s latest suitors, but this story suggests the Red Devils have competition.

Or not. The link with Liverpool stems from Klopp’s comments on Monday that Liverpool were indeed interested in Sancho in the summer of 2017 when he left Manchester City for Dortmund. Of course they were. “We are not blind – we saw him, we liked him,” said Klopp but Liverpool didn’t bother to pursue a move because they knew City would never sell to a domestic rival.

But Dortmund would at least entertain interest from Premier League clubs. And that’s it. There is no suggestion that Liverpool remain interested, especially at the price Sancho would fetch.

United’s interest seems a little more concrete. Apparently, officials at Sancho’s old club Man City believe a deal may already be in place between United and Dortmund for Sancho to move in the summer.

ARSENAL EVER READY
The Mirror are also banging the Ever Banega to Arsenal drum again this morning, with the Gunners’ interest set to be reignited in the summer.

Banega was linked with Arsenal during the first half of the season until the window actually opened last month, when everything seemed to go quiet. But the 31-year-old’s buy-out clause of £17million remains appealing to a club that is likely to be searching for loose change again during the coming summer.

With around £40-45million, Unai Emery wants a left-back, a midfielder and a forward who can play wide. Which makes Sunday’s link with Matthijs De Ligt appear even more ludicrous.

AND THE REST
Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic could have joined Manchester United last summer… Wolves are close to agreeing a new contract with Romain Saiss… Stoke will try to shift Saido Berahino in the summer after the striker was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in the early hours of Monday morning… Barcelona are favourites to sign Benfica striker Luka Jovic… Barca are also closing in on Palmeiras centre-back Vitao… Real Madrid are leading the race to sign Porto defender Eder Militao for around £44m… Juventus have made contact with Inter Milan to discuss Mauro Icardi but no talks have taken place with the striker’s representatives.
