While it’s certain that Amal Clooney would have met Meghan Markle’s father-in-law some time ago, most likely at the big royal wedding, she made headlines recently when she worked with the Prince for a very special cause. In mid-March, Prince Charles announced that he had worked with Amal Clooney to develop a brand-new award within his charity, the Prince’s Trust International.
The award, designed by Prince Charles and Amal Clooney, is called the “Amal Clooney Award,” and will be presented in the year 2020 to a young woman between the age of 11 and 30 who has made an outstanding and lasting difference in her community. The recipient of the award will be hand-chosen by Amal Clooney herself. Reportedly, Clooney worked for a long time with Prince Charles to organize and structure the award, as well as the criteria for selection and had many dinners at Buckingham Palace over the past several months.
Clooney also made a statement in conjunction with Prince Charles’, saying that she’s honored to participate in the process of selecting the winner and that it is a privilege to be able to draw attention to young women who are determined to make a difference in the world. Clooney herself is no stranger to making a difference. Her work as a human rights lawyer has drawn international acclaim, defending on behalf of neglected and exploited groups of people, as well as former government leaders who have gone to prison.
