Kim K under fire for ‘Kimono’ shapewear line

Kim Kardashian is under fire for new shapewear line called “Kimono.” The reality TV star, entrepreneur and prison reform advocate announced her product to rival Spanx called Kimono Solutionwear, saying that she’s been working on it for 15 years with an eye on more curvy sizes. “I would always cut up my shapewear to make my own styles, and there have also been so many times I couldn’t find a shapewear color that blended with my skin tone so we needed a solution for all of this,” she tweeted.

Chrissy Teigen and others quickly praised the design, but backlash followed with the hashtag #KimOhNo as critics accused her of appropriation by trademarking “kimono,” a traditional clothing item in Japanese culture. “Personally, I’m OK with random people naming their underwear brand #Kimono,” one tweet said. “Maybe it’s an homage etc.  But trademarking it so no one else, including the people you stole it from, can use the word/phrase while you make $$$ off of it? That’s bulls—.
