Kristen Bell on Whether She’ll Return for the “Gossip Girl” HBO Reboot – TeenVogue.com

Ever since official news of a Gossip Girl reboot hit the internet, there was just one question among Upper East Siders: which original cast members would return for this next chapter? Given that no one had reportedly even asked Blair Waldorf herself (AKA Leighton Meester) about the project as of earlier this year, chances of a total reunion feel slim, at best. At least Kristen Bell has an answer on the matter…well, sort of.

In an interview with E! News, Kristen, who narrated the hit CW series, was asked whether or not she’d return to deliver all of those now-iconic lines. Her response? “Maybe. I’ll never tell.” Did you expect anything less from the voice of “XOXO, Gossip Girl” herself?

That said, Kristen has a suggestion for a replacement in the event she doesn’t lend her voice-over skills to the highly-anticipated reboot. “James Earl Jones,” she announced to E! News. “It’s gotta be, yeah.” (As far as narrators go, he’s definitely got the experience!)

News of a Gossip Girl reboot has been circulating for a while now, with the CW’s president hinting back in February that there’d been a “discussion” about a possible new show. On July 17, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the reboot is officially happening in the form of a 10-episode series on HBO Max, an upcoming streaming service from the premium network.

According to series creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (who will serve as executive producers on the reboot), the next Gossip Girl chapter will follow a “new generation of New York private school teens,” and will explore the ways in which social media has changed the landscape of Gossip Girl’s surveillance as we remember it. “It’s just a new look at this particular society in New York, the idea being that society changes constantly,” Safran explained, adding: “None of us are interested in just redoing a story.”

With that, it doesn’t seem likely that a Gossip Girl reboot will include Serena, Blair, and the rest of the crew from the OG drama. However, given that the titular character seems just as central to the new plot as the original, we’ll still hold out hope that we’ll get to hear Kristen say “you know you love me” one more time.
