Elton John defends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle using private jet – Page Six

Environmentalist Prince Harry came under fire Monday for flying via private jet with Meghan Markle to Elton John’s estate in France. But John says fans should back off because it was all his idea — and stemmed from the circumstances surrounding Princess Diana’s death.

“Prince Harry’s Mother, Diana Princess Of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death,” John, 72, tweeted.

“After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, [my husband] David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home,” John continued of the Nice, France estate. “To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.”

The legendary singer then explained that he and his husband supported “Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment” by making their flight “carbon neutral” via an “appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint™.”

“I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity and I’m calling on the press to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis,” he ended his Twitter thread.

Harry, 34, and Meghan’s French Riviera retreat came shortly after they are said to have traveled via private jet to Ibiza with their 3-month-old son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, to celebrate Meghan’s 38th birthday. The couple, along with their infant son, reportedly stayed in a private villa and returned to London earlier this week.
