Premier League gossip: Manchester United to spend £300m, Striker move likely – LancsLive
Manchester United have a big job on their hands to get anything from this season already – and former players are not being shy with their definitely very important opinions.
Lee Sharpe is the latest to point out how much money needs to be spent to develop the squad.
Moussa Dembele is likely to be moving from Lyon at some point and United would seem as likely a destination as any.
And United have set an asking price for a player they are currently paying to not be there so best of luck with that.
All the latest gossip is below.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a huge rebuilding job at Old Trafford that could cost Manchester United more than £300million, ex-Red Devil Lee Sharpe believes.
“The last three managers, and the last three ways of doing things, have all not worked,” Sharpe told talkSPORT, “so I don’t think it is just the managers.
“You’ve got to look at who is appointing the managers and who’s running the club from the top.
“This is another way of doing it, with Ole and playing youngsters and getting lads through the academy and getting rid of players like [Romelu] Lukaku and [Alexis] Sanchez and [Ander] Herrera.
“It is another avenue and they’ve got to trust what they are doing.
“Otherwise it’s another change at Christmas and it all starts from the beginning again.”
Man Utd move for Moussa Dembele accelerating
Manchester United have advanced their interest in Lyon striker Moussa Dembele, according to transfer expert Duncan Castles.
Castles told the Transfer Window podcast: “There is a genuine, long-standing interest in Moussa Dembele and there is an opportunity for the club to do something there if they want to because Dembele is unhappy with his status at Lyon in that this was the season he expected to be the No 9, Memphis Depay has been demanding that he played the No 9 role, which is fascinating given that he’s clearly not a traditional No 9.
“Both players have been scoring, Dembele has actually got an incredibly good scoring rate given he’s had limited playing time in that position and isn’t a guaranteed starter.
“His valuation has dropped a certain degree, again because Depay’s been chosen ahead of him by the current coach.
“United have scouted the player since his time at Fulham and seen him as a long-term potential centre-forward for them.
“My understanding is that has advanced, it’s not got to the stage where offers have been made, but the kind of groundwork that you’d expect to be done ahead of a deal like that is beginning to happen.
“The key element to all of this is that they’re looking to do something in January already which suggests ‘we are not happy with performances, we need to upgrade further’.”
United’s Sanchez asking price ‘revealed’
United will reportedly demand £25million for Alexis Sanchez next summer.
Sanchez will have two years left on his United contract by the time summer 2020 comes around and The Sun say United are not willing to let him leave on the cheap.
