Is It Time for Meghan Markle To Stop Copying Princess Diana? – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Meghan Markle is one of the newest members of the royal family, and we have to say that we love the way she is approaching her role as the Duchess of Sussex. It is evident Duchess Meghan is bringing modern life to the royals: The British royal family is known for being extremely formal and always doing things a certain way, yet, the duchess seems to be a bit of a rule-bender.

Similar to sister-in-law Kate Middleton, Markle has paid subtle tributes to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana, ever since she married into the royal family. As we all know, the Duchess of Cambridge sports that famous sapphire engagement ring that once belonged to her husband’s mother. And Markle proudly wore Princess Diana’s aquamarine ring on her wedding day.

While the gentle nods to Princess Diana are inevitable, there has been some speculation that Duchess Meghan is copying the princess a little too much. As it is, Markle gets compared to Princess Diana pretty often because of this, so is it time for the duchess to stop copying her?

Sadly, Markle and Princess Diana never had a chance to meet, although Prince Harry famously said in the couple’s engagement interview that the two of them would have been “thick as thieves.” Princess Diana was one of the most famous women in the entire world so, naturally, Markle was familiar with her long before ever meeting her husband.

Chances are Markle wishes that she could have met the late princess, and she most likely has heard intimate family stories about Princess Diana as well. As we would expect, Duchess Meghan has paid tribute to Princess Diana more than once since her wedding. According to Harper’s Bazaar, the duchess has worn Princess Diana’s butterfly-shaped earrings on more than one occasion, as well as a bangle bracelet that once belonged to her.

Why does Meghan Markle get compared to Princess Diana so much?

The two royal women never even crossed paths, so why is it that Duchess Meghan is constantly compared to her mother-in-law? Style reports that they actually have more in common than most people ever before realized. Both of them are humanitarians and, just like Princess Diana, Markle has a huge heart and always inspires and reaches out to people in need.

The similarities don’t end there! The Duchess of Sussex seems to be following in Princess Diana’s footsteps by doing what she can to make a difference in the world and in the lives of others. It seems that the duchess is always looking for ways to honor the princess. In the past year, we have even seen Duchess Meghan copy Princess Diana’s style. According to Slice, Meghan often pays tribute to the princess with her fashion choices, wearing similar colors and styles.

Is it time for Meghan Markle to stop copying Princess Diana?

Is it possible that the tributes to Princess Diana are becoming too overwhelming, and perhaps it is time for Duchess Meghan to stop copying Prince Harry’s mom? According to Express, Markle once again gave a nod to Princess Diana recently during the royal couple’s tour of South Africa. She did this by wearing a headscarf to Auwal Mosque, just like Princess Diana once did.

Markle and Prince Harry were likely thinking about Princess Diana quite a bit while on their tour, as they honored her in more ways than one. People reports that Markle even dressed baby Archie in an outfit similar to the one Prince Harry once wore during a 1985 trip with his parents.

So, should Markle stop? We think it is wonderful that the duchess loves to honor Princess Diana, and that she finds discreet and meaningful ways to do so, and we can’t wait to see what she does in the future. But as critics continue to pit the two against each other, it may do Markle some service to create her own path.
