Beyoncé promotes gender inclusivity with new fashion line – The Hill

Beyoncé’s upcoming collaboration with Adidas marks a relaunch of her activewear fashion line Ivy Park, after cutting ties with Topshop earlier this year. And part of that rebrand is gender inclusivity.

“My mother instilled in me the idea that creativity starts with taking a leap of faith — telling your fears they are not allowed where you are headed,” the artist and designer told Elle two years after debuting Ivy Park on the magazine’s cover. “I took a chance on myself when I bought my company back. We all have the confidence in us to take chances and bet on ourselves.”

The collection, which debuts on Jan. 18 2020, includes unisex footwear and apparel. Beyoncé said she was inspired to add unisex options after seeing men wear Ivy Park designs originally marketed for women.

“The way they have embraced the brand is an unexpected gift. I appreciate the beauty of gender-neutral clothing and breaking the so-called fashion rules,” she told Elle. “I love experimenting with fashion, mixing high and low, sportswear with couture, even masculine and feminine. This new line is fun and lends itself to creativity, the ultimate power.”

She has shared images of the upcoming collection featuring Adidas’ trademark three stripes on her Instagram and said she wants to include more gender-neutral styles in future collections.

The Ivy Park partnership with Adidas was announced on April 4.

“Beyoncé is an iconic creator but also a proven business leader, and together, we have the ability to inspire change and empower the next generation of creators,” said Eric Liedtke, Executive Board Member of Adidas, in a statement announcing the partnership.
