‘The Masked Singer’ recap: Mouse, revealed to be an iconic singer, is sent home – USA TODAY

Spoiler alert! This story contains details from the Feb. 26 episode of “The Masked Singer,” including the identity of the eliminated celebrity.

While “The Masked Singer” continues to mystify, the majority of the panel correctly guessed the identity of this week’s eliminated contestant. Well, that is with the exception of the oftentimes far-reaching Ken Jeong. Compared with the others, when guessing the identity of Mouse, he was like one of the three blind mice. 

Wednesday, five challengers were whittled down to four as the shows panelists – Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke – were joined by comedian Gabriel Iglesias, also know as Fluffy.

Here’s how the night played out.

Banana

Clues: This contestant paid a visit to his “Bananagement Management” team to hear how they’d like to re-brand him.

Objects highlighted in the package include a clock displaying the time as 2:13 and the date as June 8. An was alarm set for 9:15. A glass bunny appeared on a desk, and on the screen of a computer was a snake ready to strike.

Ultimately, the star, who is ready to “Get ‘er done,” decided he was about “embracing my flaws and rockin’ out as my authentic self.” And he did exactly that, when some of the lyrics from Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Achy Breaky Heart” left his brain. 

Giving the panel another tip to his identity, Banana said art was his favorite subject in school. “It has gotten me through some of the toughest times in my life, and I’ve had quite a few,” he said. “Tonight, even though I forgot half the lyrics, I was having the time of my life, forgetting about the troubles, having a good time.”

Guesses: Jeong suspected Larry the Cable Guy, while Scherzinger stuck with her guess from last week, Ed Helms. Iglesias envisioned Billy Bob Thornton. 

Mouse

Clues: Mouse shared that “The stage is like my second home, and I’m having a ball up there.” In her “rare time off,” she said she likes to read romance novels, needlepoint and enjoy wine and cheese.

There seemed to be meaning behind a small rhinoceros statue, a framed picture of praying hands and a bowl of Brazil nuts.

For her musical number, Mouse performed “This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)” by Natalie Cole, whom Mouse called “a good friend.”

As for her favorite subject, Mouse said it was math, explaining, “My daddy told me, he said, ‘Well, you look at those numbers. And you know that those numbers represent your money.’ “

Guesses: McCarthy threw out Tracee Ellis Ross’ name. Jeong predicted Tina Turner and Scherzinger and Thicke thought of Dionne Warwick.

Frog

Clues: The package strengthened belief that Frog is rapper Bow Wow. Frog sat down at a desk behind a typewriter with the letters S, C and I highlighted, and the artist acted on the short-lived “CSI: Cyber.” A $19 price tag was placed near a tile-like object emblazoned with the word “Fame,” seemingly a nod to Bow Wow’s studio album “The Price of Fame.” Frog also mentioned that he “almost croaked,” and Bow Wow shared in 2018 that he nearly died from a dependency on cough syrup.

Frog’s favorite school subject is gym, because “it keeps me in shape so I can bust these dance moves that make these ladies go crazy.”

Guesses:  Following his rendition of 50 Cent’s “In Da Club,” McCarthy and Iglesias guessed “America’s Funniest Home Videos” host Alfonso Ribeiro, while Jeong predicted Kevin Hart, a guess that Scherzinger liked. Thicke put his money on musician Omarion.

Taco

Clues: It turns out the taco is no stranger to beef. While getting into an altercation in the package, Taco revealed he “used to be a bit of a hot head until I met the most stunning taco in the galaxy,” (who could be a Gemini as the Gemini constellation was shown). A black hairpiece was also highlighted.

Guesses: Taco, a self-described “class clown” in school, sang Elvis Presley’s “Bossa Nova Baby,” which had members of the panel all over the board. McCarthy guessed the multitalented Seth MacFarlane, while Iglesias picked Ted Danson and Jeong thought of Alec Baldwin.

Kitty

Clues: Kitty knows her way around a needle and thread. “Sewing is one of my favorite things to do when I needle a little time alone,” she said, adding that she can whip up “a modern dress for a family member’s ball.”

She also seems to have a connection with Little Red Riding Hood, as a man appeared in the package wearing a crimson cape.

After dazzling the crowd with Brett Young’s “Mercy,” Kitty revealed that she most loved English in school.

“I am such a book worm,” she said, “and I used to write my own science fiction books and sell them for quarters.”

Guesses: McCarthy picked Millie Bobby Brown, and Iglesias thought of Amanda Seyfried, but Jeong suggested it might Sarah Hyland under that meow-tfit. 

The Elimination

In the end, Mouse’s time in the competition has come to a halt.

For their final guesses, the majority of the panel (Thicke, Scherzinger, McCarthy and Iglesias) decided Warwick was under the costume, while Jeong went his own way and stuck with Turner. 

After the reveal, Warwick gushed about her time on the show.

“It has been an absolute pleasure,” she said. “I had the best time. It was a ball.”
