How Fashion Is Getting Behind Pride Month – Vanity Fair

[ad_1]

In honor of Pride month and this year’s history-making Supreme Court decision barring discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, this June will be one to remember for the LGBTQ+ community. The term Pride, in this context, is credited to “Mother of Pride” Brenda Howard, a New York–based activist who organized the first Pride parade to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, in 1970. But Pride is, and always has been, so much more than celebrations, parades, and rainbow flags. This month makes it clearer than ever that both Pride and Black Lives Matter are rooted in the taxing history of minorities who have struggled to overcome prejudice and being accepted for who they are for decades.

This week, the Vanity Fair fashion team wanted to highlight a few of our favorite brands who are not only continuing to create pieces we love, but who are showing their commitment to erase gender and sexual discrimination by giving a portion of their proceeds to LGBTQ+ organizations.
