Upfront: When your work is a lifestyle – Reading Eagle

I marvel at bed-and-breakfast innkeepers like David Leeland, who just opened The Mansion on Hampden, which we explore today. Like farmers, their business dictates a certain kind of lifestyle that entwines the personal and professional.

I think business and economic development folks in Berks County could learn a lot from the hospitality industry here, even if they aren’t going to change their lifestyle. Meeting some of our county’s best hospitality professionals (like Alneasa Jordan, a 40 Under 40 recipient, who is featured this week in The Conversation) has taught me that hospitality is more than a slick marketing campaign or making your staff say friendly things. It’s more than glad-handing everyone or setting up strategic partnerships.

It’s about serving. It’s about being genuine, and listening and seeing others.
