The city of Appleton tore down the Appleton Street Sports Bar & Grill, shown here, as part of its demolition of the attached city parking ramp.

The restaurant building and ramp are now gone, and their joint basement is being filled with dirt and made into green space.

The restaurant’s partners said they were getting city relocation funds and picked a new spot at 2731 N. Meade St., between Bargain Garden and Papa Murphy’s. They renamed it the Meade Street Bistro.

It initially was supposed to reopen in February, but date got pushed back. It appeared construction started, then stalled. It’s still not open.

“We’ve put it on hold,” said partner Clyde Weycker. “But we are going to go forward on it. My guess is it will be sometime in the fall. We are still working through our relocation package with the city.”

He said that despite the delay, they’ve been able to retain key employees. Part-time employees have found work elsewhere.

When the Meade Street Bistro does eventually open in the new location, it won’t have the same sports bar feel.

“It will be a comfortable atmosphere for our customers,” Weycker said. “It will be different from what they had at the old Appleton Street.”
