Prince William Is ‘Worried’ About Prince Harry and Meghan Markle After Their ITV Interview – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

It’s a really tough time for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

As of late, they’ve faced intense scrutiny from the British media for just about everything, ranging from their fashion choices to parenting habits, and it has apparently started to weigh on them.

In a new television documentary, the Sussexes spoke with raw emotion about their struggles to live under the global spotlight. Markle described the tabloid attention as “hard” and “complicated,” while Prince Harry said that it has brought back the trauma of the death of his mother, Princess Diana.

It was a heartbreaking moment that shocked many people, including Prince William.

Prince William is ‘worried’ about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

On Oct. 21, a Kensington Palace source told the BBC that Prince William heard about the comments the Sussexes made in the ITV documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey. The documentary followed the Sussexes on their Africa tour that happened earlier this month. It aired in the United Kingdom on Oct. 20 and will air in the United States on Oct. 23.

The source said that the Duke of Cambridge is reportedly “worried” about Prince Harry and Markle and hopes that they “are all right.” The insider added that there is a current view that the Sussexes are “in a fragile place.”

It’s not hard to see why that might be true, considering everything they said in the program.

Prince Harry and Markle got candid about the harsh media coverage

In a series of interviews, Prince Harry opened up about how the negative media attention has affected him. He spoke about the need to manage his mental health problems and implied that he’s really struggling with it.

“It’s management. It’s constant management,” he explained. “I thought I was out of the woods and then suddenly it all came back and I suddenly realized, ‘Actually this is something that I have to manage.’”

“Look, part of this job and part of any job, like everybody, means putting on a brave face and turning a cheek to a lot of the stuff,” Prince Harry continued. “But again, for me and for my wife, of course, there’s a lot of stuff that hurts — especially when the majority of it is untrue. But we all need to do is focus on being real, focus on being the people we are and standing up for what we believe in. I will not be bullied into carrying a game that killed my mom.”

His mother, Princess Diana, died in 1997 from injuries she suffered in a car crash while trying to evade the paparazzi.

Markle, on the other hand, admitted that she is not “OK”

“I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a ‘stiff upper lip,’” she explained. “I really tried, but I think that what that does internally is probably really damaging.”

Markle also noted that her friends had tried to warn her about British tabloids before she married Prince Harry in May of 2018. But she said she had “no idea” it would be as bad as it is.

“In all fairness, I had no idea, which probably sounds difficult to understand and hear,” Markle continued. “But when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life.’”

“And I, very naively — I’m American,” Markle continued. “We don’t have that there — [I said], ‘What are you talking about? That doesn’t make any sense. I’m not in any tabloids.’ I didn’t get it. So it’s been, yeah, it’s been complicated.”

It’s really sad to hear. But hopefully, things will change soon. The Sussexes have already taken legal action against one outlet, and they’re preparing to spend some time away in the United States.
